Yearly more than 2 million pilgrims from around the world — mostly Costa Ricans participated in the pilgrimage honoring the Virgen de los Ángeles, Costa Rica’s patron saint. They walk for days or weeks, often on their knees from every corner of the country to colonial capital of Cartago to the Basílica Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles.
